I woke up with a headache and one intense desire to clean, so that’s exactly what I did before leaving for work. I double check my bag to make sure I have my U-lock, since I’m riding in. Got it, no worries.

I get downtown, go into the building cubbyhole to lock up and realize, dang–I don’t have my keys. So I have my lock, but no key to open/close said lock. Great. I work in a building that isn’t exactly bike friendly.

I hustle up to the security guard and plead my case. It’s against building regulations, but he let’s me try to okay bringing it up with my supervisor. Well, it’s a bad day to need a favor like this, as certain individuals(we’ll just call them VIPs) are coming into the office today. Having a bike on the floor makes my boss nervous, so I run back downstairs and ask the security guard if there is anywhere safe for me to store my ride. Nada.

Dang. My choices are convince my boss that I can hide my bike somewhere on the wing, or I have to ride back home to get my keys and ride back downtown. And hey, if that’s what I have to do, then that’s what I have to do. No way would I leave my bike outside due to a building no-no. My boss tries out the back wall of his office but within 20 minutes he’s nervous about it and relocates my ride to a strange little storage closet/office on the 3rd floor. Five people were in there working but they were surrounded by broken office chairs and boxes, overheads and other discarded furniture pieces. Very strange. But! At least the beast is safe.

We have a meeting at the hotel down the street in 1 hour–the company I work for has been bought by another company. This occurred, officially, last week. We’re not exactly sure what this means for our jobs in the long run, but I’m assuming we’ll find out more today–the meeting is for introduction purposes to this new company. Plus it means 2 hours away from my desk so that will be nice.

[enter here some other things sort of job related that I can’t discuss at this time]

All seats occupied at the Shadow Lounge last night. Dr. Goddess brought in an entire poetry class for the open mic, which was cool. So many men and women reading for the very first time. Their nerves and blunders were endearing–oh how I remember being there. Hearing Aid did his thing, I did my thing, Daru did his thing. The highlight of the night: the vegetarian rap. This man had the room in the palm of his hand with the BE A VEGETARIAN chorus. The hands in the air, shouting along sort of incredible. A moment for moments. I went to bed with GO VEGGIE ringing in my ears.

Also! I will be having my book release show at the Shadow Lounge. Made that official with Justin last night. Quite excited.

And now, back to the Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, The Contours…everyday a day for motown.
