happy birthday, mister r.

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

I’m quickly developing an obnoxious little cold. Biking around in the rain for two days in a row will do that I suppose. But the riding is always worth it–especially the journey home from work yesterday. A mist of rain so fine that it felt like snow. Then some wind and cold, coming home with soaked socks and heart thumping happy. Go ahead and walk around like you own the world but nature dear nature will find a way to humble you every time. Physical exertion always makes this lady feel more alive.

Today is the birthday of Mr. Rogers, one of my few childhood heroes(other kidhood idols include Levar Burton, Rainbow Brite, and Punky Brewster). I have fond memories of watching Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood before afternoon kindergarten. My dad would make bologna sandwiches for me with smiley faces, and sometimes I would be moved to tears when the trolley came along for make believe. After make believe, the show would end. And I never wanted it to.

In honor of such an amazing person:

and last but certainly not least…the lifetime achievement award presented to Mr. Rogers. I cannot watch this without choking up.
