really, tv?

Just read that one of my favorite movies from the 80’s is being made into a television show.

St. Elmo’s Fire.

Here is what I say:
NOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!

My mom used to own this movie, so as a young one I watched it a few times and fell in love instantly. It’s kind of like the movie after The Breakfast Club. The group of friends have just graduated college and they have no fucking clue with they’re doing with their lives. You can’t beat the cast(which boasts some of the people from the Breakfast Club): Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Ally Sheedy, and Rob Lowe as the guy who loves women but hates to work(and plays the saxophone!).

You can’t re-create that! You just can’t! The movie belongs to an era, and yes–perhaps I’m selfish to think the film should not be touched, dissolved, re-worked into some modern flop of a show. It is, after all, a movie from my childhood. But seriously–are we that hard up for ideas in the realm of television? Can’t you come up with your own idea instead of invoking ruin on a perfectly good idea that’s already out there and that a lot of people already love? A quote from one of the new heads on the tv series in development: “”I feel it is time to re-create ‘Friends’ in the hourlong genre and feel like this is the perfect opportunity,” he said.” AAAHHH!

I’m tempted to find out exactly where they are developing this tv show so I can buy a plane ticket, find the office, and picket outside. Good luck recreating this sort of magic, guys:

Crucial scene:

(if you search for the movie on youtube, i do believe you can find the entire film on there…)
