All summer long, I anticipated change. Now change is the tour de force, and I have one hand holding onto my hat and the other cupped against the heart. Hellbent on staying in tune with what drives me, moves me, pushes me..now more than ever.

Caught myself taking stock–so much is changing that it is the perfect time to do so. It started with the writing. After some solid conversation with a good friend, I came to the conclusion that it is all relevant, and so it is being kept. That part is easy. Now it’s about adjusting my life according to necessity. While this isn’t always a “fun” task, it’s what I have to do. And you know, for someone like me, it is a good time, because it isn’t the norm. It’s a challenge. And furthermore, it’s necessary. It feels so satisfying to get things done. Now that I have a better focus on where I want to go from here, it feels pretty damn good to set ‘em up, and knock ‘em down.

I spent the summer months hanging with people I adore, writing a lot, thinking a lot, and anticipating what the autumn would bring. Now is the time to break into a run, and I’m not sure when I’ll slow down, and I don’t mind not knowing. You have to look at it this way: think about how much time is spent milling over all the things that need to be done. While “milling” has its place, it isn’t exactly “doing.” I am going to take that time and convert it into action. I’m going to be tired and frustrated and I’m probably going to question myself a lot, but that’s the beautiful part: the challenge, the rise to it, the view from a higher ground. We learn so much about ourselves by what we go through. You can only go through the usual for so long. If there isn’t risk, what is the point of deciding something? I say this not just for myself, but for anyone reading this. What can you do to get the most of the experience–whatever that experience is…if a day is just a day then why not make it more?

Perhaps I read this somewhere…the concept of waking up with one solid thought: Today is going to be the most amazing day of my life. Now, obviously, not every day can be filed under amazing…but as soon as I type this I am thinking to myself: why the hell not? If you are not spending your time with something amazing in your heart, in your hands, then what do you spend your time doing? The fact that we breathe on our own = amazing. The concept of feeling(whether it’s happiness, frustration, nostalgia, restlessness) = amazing. Communication, movement = both amazing.

Sometimes the best way to gain perspective is to bring it down to the bare essentials. It’s the life you are living. Make it yours.

Yes. Why the hell not? If it takes some extra action, maybe even only a little extra attention, sometimes it only takes one small thing, to make a day amazing, then why the hell not? Thank you Nikki.
