npm 2013, let's begin

It's April, which means National Poetry Month. I'm going to write a poem a day again. Here's the first one:

in land of
mud and money

i bend down to
smell the inside pages
of every book i read

i fix my hair
for the firing squad
pincurls of dynamite & seaweed.

  1. I love the smell of old library books. I know your reference was (probably) not literal, but given a choice at the library I pick the oldest most delicious smelling volume of whatever it is I'm checking out. That aroma is SO sweet and I think of your poem as reflecting that.

    1. It was definitely a literal reference to my lifelong habit of smelling the inside of books. I LOVE that smell so much. I love getting lost back in the stacks at the library and being surrounded by that aroma. Time, words, stories, dust, paper. I'm glad I'm not the only one who can appreciate it!
